Rockbridge Inspections LLC
A home inspection is a professional, objective, visual examination of a home’s condition. Whether you are buying or selling it provides you valuable information, allowing you to make informative decisions about your sale or purchase.
While it isn’t necessary for you to be present at the inspection, your attendance will help you learn more about your new home. We can provide tips on maintenance and prevention, as well as answer any questions you may have. If you cannot attend the entire inspection feel free to stop by towards the end and we will review our findings with you, prior to you receiving the final report.
What is radon?
Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. It is responsible for 21,000 deaths in the United States each year. It is tasteless, colorless and odorless. Radon occurs naturally in the atmosphere in trace amounts. Outdoors, radon disperses rapidly and, generally, is not a health issue. Most exposure to Radon occurs inside homes, schools and workplaces. It enters buildings through cracks and other holes in the foundation and becomes trapped indoors.
Why should I have a radon test done in my home?
Every home, old and new, has some level of radon. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that approximately 1 out of 15 homes in the United States has elevated radon levels. Children and the elderly are the most susceptible to radon related health issues, as well as anyone with a respiratory condition. The only way to know the radon levels in your home is to have a professional test performed.
How does a radon test work?
We use the newest Sun Nuclear model 1028XP monitoring device to conduct our radon tests. This is one of the most accurate measurement tool available. It tests radon levels in the home every hour for a minimum testing period of 48 hours. When the test is complete the results are then compiled into a report and emailed to the client.
If a house has radon, can it be corrected?
Yes, it can. Radon gas can be mitigated to the exterior of the home through a variety of options depending on the structure of the house.
